The idea of galaxies being flat seems counterintuitive...
It seems like planets and things should be orbiting at all different angles, not just in one plane (and saying that the system should be flat sounds suspiciously like saying that the Earth is flat).
I made a black hole thing a while ago thing using some code from Keith Peters, and then at some point put two gravitiational sources in with the cloud of particles.
While watching it, the flattening started to make sense. I know, I know, this is nothing like the real system probably, but you can see the way the gravitation of the secondary thingy flattens out the orbit. I just remembered making this, so I figured I'd put it up. You can still push the gravitiational sources around, and over time you'll see that a flat plane always develops.
